I agree with Bikerhen, particularly about the texting. As if talking on the phone while driving isn't bad enough, I have seen teenagers text people while they are driving. I know they are more experienced at texting than I am, but I have a hard enough time texting someone while sitting on the couch. How in the world can they do it while they drive? Now I know why rates to insure teenage drivers are sky high!

I remember seeing this news item about a woman that had a single-car accident and ended up upside down in a drainage ditch in her car. She credited being on the phone with her friend at the time it happened as saving her life. I think maybe she wouldn't have had the accident if she was paying 100% attention to the road. Nobody said that though, in the article.

Personally, I think they are dangerous in such cases. I carry one, but it's off unless I want to use it, and that's when I'm parked.

That is an interesting story, Soulmateless. I think I agree with you, had she not been on the phone she might not have had the accident in the first place. One-car accidents typically occur because the driver was doing something besides driving and was distracted. I also have a phone, but I try not to talk on it while driving, and I definitely never dial the phone while driving.

My ex-sister-in-law reads while driving. Her brother used to do the same thing. Now THAT has got to be one of the most dangerous activities going. Probably right up there with texting.

I was a passenger in a car one time while my brother-in-lawa was reading and driving. I told him he was scaring the crap out of me. He didn't seem to care. Kept on reading anyway. I was glad to survive that experience.
