I wouldn't say it's a silly idea, but I'd do exercise first rather than put some chemical with unknow health side-effects in my body. It's amazing what just a little bit of exercise can do. It doesn't have to be major. A daily 20 minute walk will help control blood sugars and improve your lung capacity. Walk up and down stairs instead of using the elevator. Just a few lifestyle changes make a big difference.
