On Tuesday morning, there were 16 happy teams in the NFL. And
there were 16 unhappy teams. Half the league is 1-0, the other
half 0-1.
Sixteen teams will never win another game. And sixteen teams are

On Monday and Tuesday, teams look back on their performance, assess
what went wrong, and plan how to fix it. But not Wednesday.
Wednesday is different.
That's the day you put aside last Sunday's win or loss. That's the
day you start focusing on next Sunday. That's the day you look
ahead.
If you keep looking behind, you will get behind and stay behind.
No matter how gut wrenching the loss, or sweet the victory, it's
all in the past, and not too many people will remember it.
It is, after all, a long season. A very long season, and much can
happen. Do you know why the Green Bay Packers won the Super Bowl
last year? Because the New York Giants blew a 31-7 lead over the
Eagles with 7 minutes left in that game, losing when their idiot
kicker boots one straight to DeSean Jackson who returns it for a
touchdown as time expires.
If that kick goes out of bounds, the Giants win, and the Packers
are eliminate from playoff contention. That's how crazy the season
can get.
The personal point is this: no matter how bad something seems in
the moment, you need to assess it and put it behind you fast. And
this is something you need to do over and over.
In the NFL "look ahead Wednesday" happens 16 times a season. It's
a routine, a process, a mechanism for turning the page on the
emotional pass, and looking ahead unemotionally to the near future.
So take a page from America's premier sports league. Assess your
mistakes, agonize over them for a brief time, then start plotting
your comeback.
It's a long life, and you never know what will happen if you just
keep playing.
