Hey Guys,
Occasionally on a Wednesday, I'll go to my favorite liquor
warehouse, Specs, and see if they have any new Scotches or
Bourbons. I don't drink on Wednesdays (usually only on a Saturday
since booze makes me porky), but it's a nice break to walk around
Specs and take in the variety.
Last night when I was walking down the wine aisle I saw a man who
could only be called a Dorky Doctor...and he wasn't shopping for
booze. It was obvious he was there to pick up women.

Why was he a dork?
Well, it wasn't because he picked a bad venue to meet women. In
fact, a high end liquor store that closes early on a weeknight is a
pretty darn good place. There are a lot of single women who go in
there by themselves to get a bottle of wine, and would prefer to
share it with a man than drink it all alone again.
And it wasn't because he was wearing scrubs. Certainly not the
best outfit to wear, but defensible--he just got off work, and was
stopping by the package store on the way home. I'd recommend a
better outfit, but lots of health care professionals wear scrubs.
Nope, it was the stethoscope wrapped around his neck that turned
him from a doctor into a dork. Way, way, way over done...and
desperate looking.
C'mon, man.
He was trying to get women to notice him be flaunting the fact that
he was a doctor, instead of being an attractive man who happens to
be a doctor. Big difference.
It's the same thing as bragging about your fancy car or big house
or the wads of cash you make. It's trying to use something
external to you as a gimmick for attraction, instead of just being
attractive.
I saw him walk around the place several times before he finally
gave up, picked up a 12 pack of Budweiser and left. Alone.
The lesson here is this: 1) don't be a dork and 2) no matter how
successful you are, you can still be a dork. Women don't like
dorks. So, forget trying to impress them. Just be an attractive
man, and they will impress themselves, in large measure because you
are NOT a dork.
