But in the moment, my body and mind tell me to quit because I am
feeling pain. So, I use a little trick to overcome it.
I simply count to 10 or 5 or even 3 in my mind, focusing on each
number, knowing that I can keep going for just 5 more seconds.
Once those are up, I just have to make it 5 more seconds, which I
have proven I can do.
My mind does not believe in the moment that I can go, for say, a
full minute, but it does believe I can go for 10 more seconds. All
I have to do is do that 6 times, and I made it. I did not give in
to the feeling in the moment, managing to focus on pushing through
for long term benefit.
When it comes to attraction, the mind can fool you too, but in a
different way. It can feel so good, so right in the moment, that
you say things that wind up being detrimental for you long term.
Many men feel so good in the moment they think it's forever, and
wind up getting engaged, married, or living with a woman they have
no chance of a successful relationship with.
Women are programmed to seek out long term relationships, and when
they hear a man ask them to be in one, many times they'll accept
with no thought as to future outcomes. Add this to men saying
things because the moment feels so good, and it's no wonder half
the yellow pages is full of ads for divorce attorneys.
Lookit, I think longterm relationships are a fine thing, but those
are decisions you need to make long term. Enjoy the feelings in
the moment, but don't give into the impulse they produce.
Words spoken in the moment can produce consequences that last a
lifetime...just ask any man who's recently divorced, especially if he
has kids. You'll hear some horror stories, stories that could have
been avoided by keeping his mouth shut in the moment.
