Verlaine is definitely one of the best happy hour spots in NY. With a happy hour from 5pm-10pm every single day of the week, it’s hard not to at least give this spot a try. Once in, unless there is a reservation, you are free to sit wherever is available. Open window during the day and dimmed light once the sun sets creates such an easy, breezy non-pretentious vibe. This is complemented by a mix of the 80s to current underground music. You will probably not hear a top 40 song which would ironically feel out of place in this chill, LES gem. So enough babbling – let me get to the gusto – the Lychee martinis. Now let me highlight that my martini days left with cosmos and dirty vodka martinis many seasons ago but this aphrodisiac of a cocktail could come in a mug and for $5, they win! I have also had the pleasure of enjoying their sangria which is delicious as well but does not come close to the lychee martini. And of course, if you are the indulgent drinker (which is truly a challenge not to do here), you need a little something to nosh on. My fave: the ginger fried chicken with honey soy sauce. The chicken dumplings and coconut curry chicken are definitely scrumptious as well.
