Hi ladies, are there any other 'newly' alone women in here? I'd really like to connect with some and discuss some of these 'being alone after 25 years' issues. I really thought I'd be happy to never have to put another meal in front of my husband again, and it appears that's what I miss the most... what's with that?

Well, I'm not exactly newly-alone. I choose to be alone. I'd rather spend quality time with my daughter right now than work on developing a relationship. I sure never had those kind of years of commitment behind me. Try focusing on the positive aspects of being single; not having to be home to make supper; not having to explain where, when or why you are going out, or who you are going out with. Join some groups, try something new or take a class at a community college. This will expand the group of people you get to know and you might find a new hobby you enjoy. Do something just for yourself with no guilt about time taken from home or family. Change is tough but you will get through it.

I appreciate the ideas and they are good ones. I spend a lot of time with my grand-daughter and that keeps me on the go, but I will look for a class I might enjoy at the college, take an evening off a week and get out with adults. I'm kind of like always the nanny at library and playgroup and such, and it's always younger women. They are quite nice, but I'd like to meet people more my age and with my interests.
