Is society creating ADD people? I was channel surfing the other day and briefly watched a man doing a presentation on society. One point he made was that there is no chemical imbalance reason for ADD. I don't know if this is fact. He claims our lifestyle is creating not just ADD children, but ADD adults. I didn't watch the whole show and wish I had, because his words have been running through my head. In constantly chasing the American dream, are we never content, are we never satisfied?

I think this may be true, at least to some extent. I think many people are not content, but are always chasing after something else. A better job, more money, a better woman/man. In the race to keep up with the Joneses, I think many people lose focus on what is truly important in life. And society has, in part, taught us that we need to have what someone else has in order to be happy.

I'm 100% certain that most people diagnosed with ADD do not really have it. It's sad how many doctors are prescribing drugs to children these days who more than likely have nothing wrong with them other than being young and full of energy! Kids will always lack focus to a certain degree, some more than others. But there has to be a better way of remedying this problem than pills. Here's an interesting article on the subject:

Thanks for the interesting article, Sublime78. I agree that this is probably one of the most overdiagnosed conditions in the US. I guess prescribing drugs is the easy way to treat what is probably just an active child. That being said, I do know a child that is on medication for ADD, and it makes a definite improvement in his attitude and attention span.
