Is anyone on here concerned about the connection to plastic containing Bisphenol A and it's link to cancer?
I spent yesterday cleaning all the plastic out of my kitchen based on the codes in the recycling triangle.
For those that don't know #2, 4 and 5 are safe. #1 is safe for one time use ONLY #6 is questionable and #7 is the worst, followed by #3. # 10 is unknown... we'll wait another 20 years for those studies.

I too am concerned. I have heard that you aren't supposed to heat anything in plastic in the microwave. I had not heard about the different codes in the recycling triangle. Thanks for this information. After reading this I immediately looked at some of the plastic stuff I use. You can bet I'll be cleaning out my tupperware drawer soon!

Do you remember where you found this information at? After reading and posting here, I started thinking about all the plastics in my house. I have a six-month-old daugther that has recently started eating baby food. Most of Gerber's baby foods come in plastic containers. So I checked those out and discovered that they were #7. I have tried searching for more info, but haven't found anything yet. So if you remember where you read this, could you please let me know? Thanks!

Thanks Soulmateless, now I'm tilting all plastic ware over and reading the code. The other day I had a bottled water and was sure it tasted like chemicals. Checked the code and checked the expiry date. Yep, past the date. Does that make it a little 'chemical bomb?' I sure hope not. I have two cases sitting in my back room.
Aaargh! I googled the 'Bisphenol A' term, and sure enough there are warnings out about it.
If it's not one thing, it's another!

For Belle, here is what I found:

about the safety of the products
http://www.bisphenol-a.org/

about the harmful effects
http://www.environmentaldefence.ca/toxicnation/action/bisphenolfaq.htm

Hon, buy glass, be on the safe side.

It seems like everything now days causes cancer. A while back there were stories about how eating microwave popcorn could cause lung cancer. Something about the butter flavoring used. There have been different stories about the plastic issue. First it was okay as long as you didn't microwave it; now certain types are harmful regardless. I wonder what common item will be found to be cancer-causing next month?
