It was recently Earth week and there were tons of stories on the news about going green. My question is, what kinds of ecofriendly things do you do? I hate to admit it, but I personally don't do much. Occassionally I will recycle paper, plastic, etc, but that's the extent of my environmental friendly activities. I'm curious to see what (if anything) others do to preserve the environment.

Hi Angel,
I'm in Canada and they really promote this eco-friendly stuff here. Let see, I recycle ALL my plastic, glass and metal product containers, my paper and cardboard. Garbage pick-up is a service (included in our taxes), so we just have to put our recycle out at the sidewalk once a week and they take it away. They also pick up trash in bags we have to pay for, therefore, we recycle more and use our bag space wisely.
Service groups all over hold clean-up days and get groups of people together to clean up trash in the ditches and by the road ways. Scouts, girl guides, skating groups, all kinds. My daughter's library group participated in earth day. Five adults and twelve children descended on our local park and cleaned up the trash. The kids loved it and hopefully learn that we are all responsible for keeping our land clean. It didn't even take 1/2 hour, kids have tons of energy.
I personally and continually pick up trash at our nearest beach in the summer. It's not a huge area, but we use it daily and I like to know there is no broken glass, used condoms or other nasty things the little ones could get hold of. I've already been once this year, with my daughter, for clean-up.
Anyway, that's me personally.

That's awesome! If more people were like you, the environment would be much better. I really am trying to improve. Our garbage pick-up is included in our water bill. We have what they call 'Big Blue.' These are large containers that we put our bagged trash in. Each house gets one container, but you can request a second one for no additional cost. And if you want, you can even get a third container for an additional monthly fee. Then we also have small recycle containers that they also pick up once week. I am trying to better about putting as much as I can in the recycle container. I think they could get more people to recycle if they would charge a fee for everyone who has more than one Big Blue. If they would charge a considerable fee, I'm sure people would become more conscious of what they throw away versus what they recycle.
