Hello Mikey, If you gave me a gift card... I'd probably wonder what you thought you were buying... Why do you think that is such a good idea? I'd really like to know. Maybe things are different in today's dating world, but if any guy I knew handed me a gift card or money, even a gift if we're just dating, I'd be offended, not impressed with your thoughtfulness. Then again, maybe it's an age difference.

I think that a gift card is actually just the opposite of thoughtful. To me it says that the guy didn't want to put the time and thought into picking out a gift. Buying a woman a gift card seems to be the easy way out. In my opinion, if you really want to impress a woman, figure out what she likes and spend some time picking out an actual gift. It doesn't have to be anything expensive; she will still be impressed that you spent the time to pick something specifically for her.

I guess it depends on how long you have been with the person. If you've been together a while, then a gift card may be a good idea, especially if she is picky. But if I had just started dating a guy, the gifts he buys me tell me what kind of person he is. I would want something romantic from a guy if we hadn't been together very long, not something he would also buy his mother or sister.

I think I agree with Angel. If you are in a relationship and you aren't sure what to buy or she is picky, then a gift card would be okay. But I don't think I'd want a DATE to hand me a gift card. A date implies that it's a fairly new relationship.

LOL. This is pretty funny actually. No offense to the people at EM, but that kind of shameless solicitation to sell gift cards is pretty weak. A gift card is something you give your niece or nephew for their birthday, or maybe a brother or sister. To give one to your date is pretty lame. Whatever happened to bringing your date flowers? I'm pretty sure women still find that more thoughtful than a gift card.
