Here is a great idea for all your wives and girlfriends of guys who do not know how to cook. Teach them how to cook. Most guys can cook on the grill because their dad taught them how. Not that many can cook in the kitchen. Use the excuse that they should know in case something happens to you. That way they would be able to save money and not have to go to restaurants all the time. Even better if you have children, tell them he's going to have to be able to cook for the kids and teach them how to cook.

I think it also should go without saying that even if you are not the greatest cook in the world it is still the proverbial thought and gesture that counts

I think it goes without saying that EVERYONE, man or woman, should be able to make a meal for themselves. That's just part of the basic facts of life, we have to eat.
I'd cook for a date. Even better would be if we made a meal together, be it barbecue and salad, or something more elaborate.
I've had enough of years of being in the kitchen cooking and cleaning up while the husband snored in his Lazy-Boy. Yeah, they named that chair right!

I am a single man and I LOVE to cook! Heck, I even wash my own dishes afterwards. I don't know why cooking seems to be such a chore for most men, maybe they've just never had to do it for themselves. I guess I was lucky enough to have two grandmothers who cooked all the time and made really wonderful dishes, this definitely inspired me to learn for myself. As Bikerhen said, everyone should be able to make a meal for themselves. Cooking is not difficult!!

Sublime, you are one in a million, let me tell you. Having two grandmothers who made fabulous dishes would inspire most men to look for a woman like their grandmother. Considerably younger in all likelihood, but with the same personality.
I think you made the wisest choice, learn how to look after yourself.
