Basically, I think dialogue is the only way to gain a better understanding of each other. Forums like this can even go a long way to breaking down the barriers. I know, most men dread the C word: communication. But how else can you understand what the fairer sex is thinking? I've never read the infamous "Mars/Venus" book, but I'm sure it can be helpful as well. Ultimately, I think we're a lot alike, we just have to try our best to understand and learn from each other.

I agree communication is the key. When my husband and I finally started communicating, we realized we didn't want the same things out of life anymore. The only thing we had in common were grown children. You can't base your own happiness on grown children; they have their own lives to lead.

I completely agree that communication is the key. Without it, you don't know what the woman is thinking or feeling, so how can you possibly understand her? Guys always say women are so hard to understand. But honestly, guys are difficult to understand too when there is a lack of communication.

You are right; women often don't mean what they actually say. I think generally, and I probably shouldn't speak in generalities, but men are more straightforward.
There's this saying about a woman says yes, she means maybe; a woman says maybe, she means no; and when she says no, she means it, maybe... LOL

I completely agree. The problem I seem to encounter is that while men are more straightforward when they communicate, many of them don't want to communicate. This makes it hard to know what they are really looking for in a relationship.

Really good point Angel. And I'm not sure if they don't want to communicate, or if they don't see the need to communicate. If they feel everything is alright with the world, then what is there to discuss? That's been my experience with the opposite sex anyway.
