I remember my first heart break all too well. I was 18 and my girlfriend of 3 months had just broke it off with me for no apparent reason. Three months certainly isn't a long time per se, but our relationship was so intense that to have it pulled right out from under me was absolutely crushing. In retrospect it may have been a bit more of an infatuation, but at the time I was completely convinced that I was in love. You never get used to the feeling, but nothing stings quite as much as that first broken heart.
