i wouldn't worry about it ruining a fantasy. It may lead you to come up with others. Besides, it could be even better than you imagined, and the memory of it would be better than your fantasy. I say go for it.
I haven't done it in a public place where I could get caught, but there are plenty of places other than the bedroom. Actually, the bedroom can get kind of boring!
